Hosting Playing Tiles Scoring Options Booted Players

Hosting

To host WordCross (WordX), click on Host in the lobby. When the pop-up menu appears, select ipWordX. The dictionary takes a few moments to load; please be patient -- it is worth it!!

Once you have all your players (2-4), you may seat them. To do this, click on a name and seat each player in a different color until all are seated. When ready to begin play, click start in upper left corner of screen. The table host plays first. Play will then continue to the left around the table until all have played.

Playing Tiles

Your tiles show up in a rack on your right. Under each letter is the point value. To line up a word, click on a letter in your rack and then move it around with the left and right arrows at the end of your rack. Once you have a word lined up, you can put it on the board by (1) highlighting the first letter, (2) clicking on the board where you want the first letter, and (3) clicking where you want the last letter. The word will show on the board to you only. If you feel the word is correct, click done; if it is not correct, click undo and start again.

Scoring

The computer will keep score automatically for you. Light blue squares will double the value of the letter you place on it. Dark blue squares will triple the value of the letter placed on it. Pink squares will double the value of the word played. Red squares will triple the value of the word played.

If you play all 7 tiles in one turn, you will receive a bonus of 50 points plus the value of the word played.

Options

You may, as the host, turn the timer on or off. This will change the length of time allowed for play. If you choose to use the timer, you can set the time allotted for word play to either 2, 6, or 10 minutes. Also as the host, you may remove a player if he/she leaves or has been booted. To do this, you must click on Remove Player at the top of your screen and click on the player you want to remove.

All players have the option to challenge another player's word. If you are sure a player has played an illegal word, you may click the challenge button. The computer will decipher whether or not the word challenged is valid. If the word challenged is not a valid word, the person who played it will lose that turn and miss his/her next turn as well. If the word challenged was good, the person who challenged will miss his/her turn.

Booted Players

Should a player be booted from his/her server, you may remove that player from the game; however, it is best to wait a few minutes and see if he/she come back. If he/she returns, you may reseat the player by clicking on the player's name and putting him/her back in the color he/she was in.
